Abu Dhabi’s maritime awards programme has attracted a record 132 submissions, giving the regional marina industry a larger field against which to compare operations and service standards. The result was announced on 30 October, ahead of any claim here about the eventual winners.

What the new participation figures show

The 2026 Abu Dhabi Maritime Awards received entries across 12 categories from eight countries. Organisers Abu Dhabi Mobility and Abu Dhabi Maritime, part of AD Ports Group, said submissions had grown by more than 200 per cent over three years. The programme began in 2023.

Its assessment areas include leadership, innovation, sustainability, health and safety, and operational performance. The participating countries are the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Türkiye, Kuwait, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Why operators should look past the headline number

For marina businesses, the useful question is what can be learned from the assessment process. A facility’s appearance and its operating quality are different things. A berth can look attractive while maintenance coordination, emergency communication or customer handovers remain difficult to manage.

CYUAE’s interpretation is that benchmarking becomes valuable when a business connects an external assessment framework with evidence from daily work. An operator considering recognition should be able to explain how a service promise is delivered, who owns a problem when it arises and how an improvement is recorded. The application can then become a management exercise rather than simply a marketing submission.

The participation figures do not establish marina occupancy, profitability, berth prices or investor returns. They measure engagement with this awards programme. Reading them as a complete market-demand indicator would go beyond the announcement.

What marina customers can ask

For a customer assessing a marina, any award reference should sit alongside practical questions: which facility and year does it concern, what was assessed, and how does that connect with the service being purchased? Customers should still examine the berth agreement, access arrangements, charges and responsibilities directly.

A finalist or winner label, when officially confirmed, can be one piece of information. It cannot answer every question about a particular berth or replace the written terms of a transaction.

What to watch next

The next meaningful update is the official assessment outcome, including the named recipients and categories. Until that is published, the reported development is the expanded entry field. Businesses and customers should use the organiser’s current material to distinguish submissions, shortlists and final recognition.
