Masdar’s Youth 4 Sustainability platform has opened applications for its 2027 programmes, creating a new opportunity for young people considering sustainability as a field of study, professional development or community action.
The announcement was published on 28 October as the platform marked ten years since its launch. It identifies two different routes, making the first application decision a question of programme fit rather than simply enthusiasm for the subject.
The two announced routes
Future Sustainability Leaders is a year-long programme aimed at university students and young professionals aged 19–35. Sustainability Ambassadors is designed for senior high-school students aged 15–18 from the UAE.
The programmes include skills development, practical experience, mentorship and engagement with leaders across industry, government and policy. The announcement says applications are open; it does not establish a salary, scholarship, visa entitlement or guarantee of admission.

How to assess whether the opportunity fits
For a prospective applicant, sustainability is a broad interest. A stronger decision starts by identifying the specific question they want to investigate: energy systems, resource use, technology, business practice or the way a community changes behaviour.
CYUAE’s interpretation is that a learning opportunity becomes more useful when the participant can connect it with an observable problem. A student who has examined a school’s waste process, for example, has something concrete to discuss. A young professional can consider which part of their work exposes them to a sustainability-related decision. These are illustrations of preparation, not published selection criteria.
Age and programme route are only the starting point. Applicants should use the live official application material to confirm the current eligibility requirements, evidence requested and time commitments before preparing a submission.
Questions for students and families
A year-long programme needs to work alongside existing responsibilities. Students and families can ask how participation would fit with classes, examinations, transport and other commitments. Young professionals should consider how any activities connect with work arrangements and development goals.

The distinction between participation and employment is equally important. Experience and access to mentors can support a future career, but acceptance should not be treated as a promise of a job. The value depends partly on what the participant learns and can subsequently demonstrate.
What to verify before applying
Check the official programme route, current deadline, required documents and application confirmation process. The source reviewed for this report does not supply a closing date. Applicants should therefore consult the live application channel rather than rely on an assumed window or an unofficial intermediary’s promise.
